The Burmeister Story

In the early 1920s, Marvin Burmeister fulfilled a dream when he opened a cabinet company called Advanced Millwork. The business thrived until the Great Depression when, like many other companies, it fell upon hard times and was forced to close its doors.

In 1937 Marvin reopened his business, this time as Burmeister Woodwork Co. Again unforeseen external circumstances intervened and, when World War II began, Burmeister shifted its production to support the war effort, manufacturing thousands of tool boxes, primarily for the Howitzer.  After the war, Burmeister turned its focus back to the quickly expanding housing market and was well-positioned to support the building boom of the 1950s and '60s.

In 1964 George Burmeister purchased the Company from his Uncle Marvin. George added finished stairways to the product line, making the Company a full-service millwork manufacturer and supplier. In 1981 Russell Burmeister purchased the business from his father and enhanced Burmeister’s focus on high-end, custom architectural millwork.

In 2015 John Sprenger purchased the Company.  John’s strong work ethic, attention to detail, and extensive management experience have improved operating procedures while maintaining the Company’s commitment to the highest-level of product.

"I was drawn to the Company because of the beauty and craftsmanship of each and every piece produced by Burmeister. Attention to detail and striving to be the very best is something I learned to appreciate in the military. For over 80 years, the Company has built a reputation for producing the highest quality products backed by the highest standard of service. I am proud of the Burmeister history and look forward to continuing the story.” – John Sprenger
